Start with a puppy you can see, not a search result
A search for puppies for sale or breeders near you is a starting point, not proof that a seller owns a puppy. Check the individual identity, date of birth, current photos and seller contact information. Availability must be confirmed directly; an indexed page may be older than the inventory.
Male or female: choose the individual
Sex alone cannot predict temperament, trainability or adult size. Ask about the puppy’s observed behavior, socialization and daily routine. Discuss reproductive health and neutering with your vet rather than assuming one sex is universally easier.
Registration, papers and health testing
AKC registration, purebred descriptions and papers are not interchangeable with health screening. Ask for the issuing registry, verifiable parent identities, dated veterinary records and the actual screening results. Do not infer registration or health guarantees from a breed name.
Find a responsible seller
Ask who raised the litter, how the parents were evaluated, what the puppy eats and how the seller handles illness or a failed placement. Independently verify records and review written terms. A polished website or a claim to be the best breeder cannot substitute for evidence.
When no puppies are listed
Do not pay to join an unspecified waitlist or assume a puppy exists because a site targets available-now searches. Ask which animals are currently available and whether any waitlist has a fee, refund terms or priority rules. Little Pup Corner’s public listings should reflect current supported-breed records.
