Low-shedding coats trap loose hair instead of dropping it. Without regular brushing that trapped hair becomes tight matting against the skin, which is painful and expensive to fix.
Brush to the skin, not just over the surface. Part the coat in lines and work through each section with a slicker brush and a metal comb to check your work.
Aim for three to four short sessions a week from the day your puppy comes home, so grooming becomes ordinary rather than frightening.
Book a professional groom every six to eight weeks. Start with a short, positive puppy trim at around sixteen weeks.
Pay extra attention to the friction points: behind the ears, under the collar, the armpits and the back legs.
