About the Pomeranian
Pomeranians descend from much larger Arctic spitz dogs, and they never received the memo about being small. Expect a confident, opinionated dog who believes they are supervising the household.
Their double coat is spectacular and does shed, particularly twice a year. It must never be shaved — the undercoat protects them from both cold and heat, and shaved coats often grow back patchy.
Barking is the trait to plan for. Poms are alert by nature; teaching a calm response to the doorbell and hallway sounds from week one is far easier than correcting it at a year old.
