About the Shih Tzu
The Shih Tzu was bred for one purpose: to be a companion. There is no working drive to satisfy, which makes them one of the most restful small dogs to share a home with.
They are famously tolerant, which is why they are a common recommendation for households with children — though supervision still matters with any small dog.
Their flat face needs practical management. Avoid walks in the heat of the day, keep them lean, and use a harness rather than a collar. Their long double coat mats quickly without routine brushing.
